Introduction

The "festival 2013" was launched, including the celebration of 400 years of canals in Amsterdam. For us the time to not only back but also to look ahead to the next 400 years. Green Canals, an initiative of Wubbo Ockels, aims to preserve the canals of Amsterdam.

Reason to Be Selected

Energy saving measures in historic buildings to generate their own energy, we investigate all possibilities. In cooperation with Stadsherstel Amsterdam, we preserved a number of buildings at this time. By precisely realizing the canal sustainability actions, we show to a large national and international audience that energy reduction can be combined in a responsible way with the preservation of the existing cultural and historical values.

Highlights:

Our aim is therefore to to guide the preservation of three buildings in 2013. Together with property owners, residents, city of Amsterdam and the business we look for innovative applications to make these buildings energy-neutral. The buildings set an example, "as it can so '! During several events in 2013, the premises will be open to the public so you can see how it can!

Green Menu

With the online tool the Green Menu has now become possible for all building occupants to get themselves started. On March 13, 2014, the former astronaut launched with Marjan Minnesma this free tool to Grachten Lab museum of the Canal House. Green Menu provides answers to important questions such as: what do the dozens sustainable options for comfort, how green they are and how about finance and regulation? Using a 'wish list' the visitor can see at a glance how their premises requirements and wishes can become sustainable.
