Introduction

Shibuya, the heart of Tokyo. In this urban jungle, there are buildings such as Shibuya Light, Blue Tower Building, Shibuya Mark City, and 109. In September, 2018, the new large-scale facilities "Shibuya STREAM" and "Shibuya BRIDGE" complex were born on the south side of Shibuya Station. This is a large-scale TOD redevelopment project using the old Tokyu Toyoko Line Shibuya Station and the original ground floor two-story elevated line. Its greatest feature is the re-creation of the Shibukawa River and the riverside space and creative cultural industry base with oasis squares and promenades. It will be a new area of innovation and cultural industry in the ever-developing Shibuya area. The concept of Shibuya redevelopment is to "build Shibuya as the most popular neighborhood for people to visit Japan."

Reason to Be Selected

Highlights:

People-oriented, effectively improve the urban environment and make it a place for creative new people.

Details

There are a variety of special areas around Shibuya, and the design connects these special areas to form a walking circle. By taking advantage of this unique environment, our goal is to form points and lines through the promotion of urban development, to enhance the attractiveness of the valley and surrounding areas and bring about the social benefits of long-term sustainable growth. The design also actively renovated the original stinking ditch. The square on the side of the building developed a green-rich riverside ecological pedestrian street that lasted about 600 meters. This green riverside walking space extends to Daikanyama. Significantly increase pedestrian traffic. Unlike other office spaces in Tokyo, there are three important development concepts for the large office space in Shibuya STREAM Building:

1. People-oriented, providing space for creative workers. Shibuya STREAM not only has creative offices, high-tech hotels, new commercial facilities, but also a studio, conference hall, incubator office space, nursery and facilities for bicycle commuters. Provide a high-quality creative space that combines work and leisure.

2. Prepare a new walking space and create a new STREAM. Shibuya STREAM not only overcomes the unique characteristics of Shibuya through the second floor flyover above the 246 National Highway and the south exit of JR Shibuya Station, as well as the East-West Freeway on the third floor and the urban core and Shibuya Station on the second to second floors. The valley defects have also formed an obstacle-free three-dimensional transportation network.

3. The regeneration of Shibuya River creates a unique and glamorous green city environment. Through the redevelopment of Shibuya STREAM, the river water is purified, and a water feature called Wall Spring is set up. A new riverside oasis leisure plaza and a walking space of about 600 meters are newly established.

The design uses the vertical through space of the building to complete the natural ventilation of the subway, which is its biggest energy-saving feature.

Conclusions

The plan is to inject new vitality into the ever-growing Shibuya area, making the southern part of the world's second-largest traffic hub a hub for innovative industries and driving long-term sustainable development in the surrounding areas.
