Introduction

The 3D Print Canal House is a unique project where an international team of partners working on the 3D printing of a
canal house on a construction exhibition grounds in the heart of Amsterdam, and so connections lays between design, science, culture, construction and city. 3D printing is a fascinating new production technique

Reason to Be Selected

. Allows you to directly
translate into a physical product a digital file. In April 2013 a letter of intent was signed with the aim of starting the construction of the world's first 3D printed canal. The canal is an initiative of DUS Architects and will be printed with the Court maker, a great mobile 3D printer developed by the architects themselves. The Chamber Maker can print entire interiors with dimensions of 2 x 2 x 3.5 meters. The design for the house consists of several rooms, each of which is individually printed on site before they are assembled into a single canal.

Highlights:

3D printing of a canal, the symbol of Amsterdam, the world showing how to combine the traditional local values with new
innovative ideas. 3D Print Canal House is built from January 2014 in Amsterdam. Each new 3D print exhibited exits the printer and tested on site. Room maker wants to print with durable material of biological origin, which melts at a relatively low temperature and, of course, is sturdy and stable. In addition, they are currently exploring the possibilities of printing with recycled material.

Details

3D Print Canal House is a three-year research and development project. The knowledge gained during the construction
of the canal will be shared with the community through the website and the exhibition center. Hopefully the final building will be a center for innovation and new manufacturing techniques and materials for the construction industry.

From March 2014, it is possible to visit the site to see all the new 3D prints. By buying a ticket sponsoring the visitors the project. The project is partially funded by contributions from our partners and partly by the municipality of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and the DOEN Foundation.
