The project undertook the environmental recovery of the area and the creation of a leisure area related to the practice of sport fishing. This recovered area allowed the creation of two jobs and an annual average number of 18.000 visits to these  facilities, becoming this fishing preserve a true focus of tourist attraction for the area, as 70% of the visitors come from outside the municipality. This fact is important since the initiative also has an economic sustainability.The management model combines the Local Administration: the town council, with anon-profit organisation, the Fishermen's Association: “El Banzao”, allowing this way the skills of the local people to be part of this management mode.

Results achieved:

Sustainability is an aspect that has been thoroughly taken into account atall stages of the project. We can point out three remarks:

In the first place, an economic sustainability, investing all the obtained resources on the operating costs and improving facilities.

Secondly, we must also talk about an environmental sustainability: an area deeply degraded by man has been recovered, recuperating the biodiversity and the landscape of the area. Likewise, the activity of controlled fishing has encouraged friendly habits with natural resources, promoting the catch and release fishing. 

Lastly, we must also consider a social sustainability. The population has been incorporated to its management and this is a feature that allows the use of policies very different to the ones used in a business, where benefits are the main objectives. In this case, the model tries to be a service to the community. Lessons Learned:We consider that the most important lesson to be learnt with this experience is the excellent results that can be achieved implying the citizens in the management of certain aspects of a local government.

Secondly, and certainly related with the aforementioned, the important role that the volunteers play in the environmental management. 

Finally, how important is the political leadership when it comes to novel activities. Nowadays, politicians are much discredited at a social level, but there are some exceptions that prove how erroneous it is to make any type of oversimplification.
